Happy Monday, friends!
Well we had an exciting and full weekend. We had our first tornado in Abilene, Tx. I have lived here almost all my life - 40 years! That’s a long time! We have storms and warnings and I have spent many times in the hallway with pillows (thanks, Mom!) and every time the storms passed with just wind, rain, and maybe some hail but never anything too exciting. Until Saturday.

I’ll share more on that but first, let’s talk Track Meet!

On Friday, our Elementary school held a Track Meet for the 3rd-5th graders. They bused the kids over the high school for the day and Cutter was so excited about participating! Because the actual track and football field are under construction at the moment, this year they changed it up a bit and ran just one competitive run for each grade level in the field by the track and then held the field events at the stadium.

The kids could choose between running the Fun Run or the Competitive Run, both were a half mile run. Cutter chose the Competitive Run because, well, he’s just like his dad. Ha! Very competitive!

Cutter ended up placing 5th for the 4th grade boys!

My nephew Corban (on the left) placed 2nd so he and Cutter both made top 5!

Cutter chose the Softball Throw and Long Jump as his two field events.

Cutter placed 2nd in the Softball Throw!

They put the kids in groups of 4 or 5 for the Long Jump.

They were allowed two jumps each.

Cutter placed 1st in the Long Jump! All the 1st place winners for their groups!

It was such a fun day and we had gorgeous weather for it!

After the Track Meet, we picked up Carson from school and then headed to church. Carson went with the Middle School Choir on a choir trip to San Antonio.

We loaded them up, prayed over them, and saw them off!
Can you spot Carson in his blue KY shirt? That’s me next to him in the cap looking windblown and sunkissed from the Track Meet! Ha! And yes, Carson is now taller than me at age 12. Sigh.

I left the church and met Mark at the baseball fields to watch Cutter play. He had to finish one inning of a game that had ended in a tie earlier in the season and then played their regularly scheduled game for that night. His team won both games!

That was our long but fun Friday!

Saturday morning Mark and I woke to our phones going off with an emergency alert at 5:45am that we were under a Tornado Warning. We watched the news, checked the radar, and determined we were not in the path and therefore didn’t wake the kids. However, an EF-2 tornado did hit on the west side of Abilene just a few blocks away from our church. At about 10:30am, the storms had passed and we had checked on everyone we knew that lived in the area, including my brother, and all were safe and had suffered no damage. So we took Cutter to a friend’s house to play and Mark, Conner, and I headed that way to help.

The City ended up using one of our church parking lots at their staging area for emergency personnel and volunteers. We opened our gym and had so many people from the community start showing up bringing cases of water, sandwiches, food, etc. The Red Cross brought necessities to be used and passed out as well. We helped unload supplies and then Mark and Conner went to help on the streets and help clear debris at the house of a church member. I stayed at the gym with other church members and ministers to hand out food to the police officers, volunteers, and families affected. What a humbling experience to visit with these families who many had lost much and some have no homeowners insurance. There are many affected however it could have been so much worse. As I type this, the news has only reported one person taken to the hospital and no fatalities. Praise God! Please be in prayer over these families in the coming weeks. And join us in praising God for His protection over His people. Praying that if someone doesn’t know Jesus as their personal Savior, that this will bring God glory and bring them to know Him.

Here are a few pictures of the damage…

(Abilene Drone)

There were several streets blocked off so the utility crews could try to restore power and gas to the area. Several streets you had to park and then walk a ways to be able to reach the people in need.

Praying over all the first responders and volunteers who helped this weekend as well. HUNDREDS of people came out to help their neighbors. What a blessing to witness people being the hands and feet of Jesus!

Meanwhile in San Antonio…

Carson was busy serving with the choir by picking TONS of cabbage for the local food bank!
They spent their morning picking and loading cabbage and then spent their afternoon at Sea World. Carson had never been and he had a BLAST!

Sunday morning the choir sang in two services at Crossroads Baptist Church in San Antonio, then made the 4 hour drive back to Abilene.

They arrived around 5:00pm, unloaded, and then were ready for their 3rd performance of the day! They shared at our church at the 6:00pm service. (Carson is directly to the right of the choir director.)

This was Cutter…exactly how we all felt! Ha!

Conner headed to a Senior party for some friends about to graduate.
Mark and I headed home with Cutter and Carson. We ate dinner, got them showered and ready for bed, Mark and I snuck in a quick run, and then we were all ready to call it a night!

I hope you have THE BEST Monday! It’s our last one before summer!!

Linking up with the Hello Monday Girls!

Hello Monday 2019.jpg

A few of you have mentioned you are new to my blog so I wanted to say “Hello and welcome!” to those of you who are new here. If you are a friend who has been here for a while, “I’m glad you’re here too!”

My name is Tish and this is my little piece of the internet.

I started my blog to help me document more about our family and kiddos. What I discovered is the sweetest community of friends from all over the world! I am so grateful for each of you!

I am a wife, Mom, and Realtor in Abilene, TX.

I was born and raised in Texas which means I love sweet tea, chips and queso, and all the Tex Mex food! I grew up in Abilene (moved here when I was 3) and attended Hardin-Simmons University where I received my degree in Elementary Education. I taught 3rd grade at Wylie ISD and then stayed home when I got pregnant with Carson (our 3rd kiddo). After Cutter (#4) was born I went back into teaching when Carson was 4 yrs old and Cutter was 2 yrs old. I taught Kindergarten and Pre-K at St. John’s Episcopal School. However, after three years back in teaching, God opened the door for me to go into real estate. You can read about why I became a Realtor HERE. I have now been a Realtor for 5 1/2 years and absolutely LOVE what I do! I am blessed every day by my clients!

I love coffee like Lorelai Gilmore loves coffee! I drink crazy amounts of it especially in the winter. Any other cold natured friends? I am a Reality TV junkie and love to watch The Bachelor (Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise) and Big Brother but also watch a few of the Real Housewives series too. They are all ridiculous but they make me laugh! My FAVORITE thing to do is read! If you know someone who will pay me to read books for a living, please give them my contact info! Ha! #dreamjob

However, THE MOST IMPORTANT thing I want you to know about me is that I love Jesus! He is my Savior and all that I have in my life I owe to Him. Love God. Love people. It’s that simple! And if you don’t know God as your personal Savior but want a relationship with Him or have questions, I would love to visit with you! You can email me at simplytish@yahoo.com!

I am married to Mark who is truly my best friend. He knows me better than anyone else and I am so grateful to live this crazy life of ours with him by my side! We have four kiddos and spend much of our time watching them play sports! We are a soccer, football, basketball, baseball family currently and our daughter played volleyball as well as ran track (and played basketball too) when she was in high school so we have most sports covered. We also love to go to the movies and can eat our weight in movie theatre popcorn!

Mark Blackburn

Mark is the Postmaster of Stamford, TX, a small town about 40 miles north of Abilene. Mark also grew up in Abilene and attended Abilene Christian University where he played baseball. We both attended Cooper High School and Mark graduated the same year as my older brother. We dated my senior year of high school and his sophomore year at ACU for a few months and then God brought us back together 10 years later.

Alyssa Michelle

Alyssa is our oldest and our only girl! She recently turned 21 and I shared a post all about her you can read HERE. Alyssa is a senior in college and lives in Waco, TX. She is working towards her Bachelor’s degree to be a Child Life Specialist and then plans on going into her Master’s degree program next year. Being the only girl and the oldest, she is always playing second Mom to her brothers. This girl is pure light and love to all who know her! We have such a sweet special bond and I am forever grateful God chose her to make me a mom!

Conner Ryan

Conner is our oldest son who just turned 17 a few weeks ago. Conner is a junior in high school and plays on the Varsity basketball team. We love watching our #44! Conner is one of the nicest kids you’ll ever meet. He has a super laid back personality - not type A like his mom and sister. Ha! Conner is easy going, loves to do anything sport related although his passion is definitely basketball. He has a close relationship with his older sister (those two are always up to something!) and he is just the absolute best big brother to our little Cs. Conner’s schedule is crazy right now with school, athletics, church activities, etc. but the second he gets home he always goes straight to find his brothers. They have all the special handshakes, inside jokes, and Carson and Cutter just want to be like Conner when they grow up. And they both want to be taller than Conner. Haha! #goals

Carson Michael

Carson is our middle son and also had a birthday a few weeks ago. Carson and Conner share a January 15th birthday exactly five years apart! Carson is 12 years old and is in 6th grade, his first year of middle school. Carson has a big heart. He is always praying for others and wants the best for his friends. He is very tender hearted and always looking for ways to serve others. Carson also plays basketball and baseball. And he is just almost taller than his Momma! (He measures every single day. Ha!) Carson loves to dress up for church, pictures, and school events. He can rock a fun suit like his Daddy! Carson is very much like Mark. He is his mini-me in looks and has a lot of the same personality traits. Carson is very personable and social. He likes to be the life of the party! It’s Carson’s world and we are all just living in it!

Cutter Maddux

Cutter Maddux completed our family 9 years ago. He is our quietest kid around others but his personality is BIG when he is at home! This kid is FUNNY! He is always making us laugh! Cutter also remembers almost everything he reads or learns so he is always using new words and trying to keep us on our toes. He loves to read like his Mom and Dad. He also absolutely LOVES going to the movies and popcorn like us too! Cutter is our cuddle bug and lover of blankets. This kid wants a new blanket every Christmas and birthday! He also prefers to be with one of us than alone in his room. He and Carson are super close and call themselves “best friend brothers”. I hope they always do that! He is also constantly in Conner’s room hanging out with his biggest brother any chance he gets. Cutter Maddux is growing up but he will always be the baby of our family. The perfect caboose!

Have a great Tuesday!

Happy Monday, friends!

This is SO me today!
I mean, I have ALL THE THINGS on my To Do list for today, but coffee will be a BIG part of my Monday!

We started our weekend in Aledo Friday night to watch Conner play basketball. Aledo is about a 2 hour drive from Abilene, We loaded up Carson and Cutter after school and headed that way IN THE RAIN. Friends, I-20 is NOT fun to drive in pouring down rain trying to pass around those 18 wheeler trucks. We passed three wrecks and were so grateful to finally arrive!

Conner’s varsity game was scheduled for 7:30pm. However, one of the school buses broke down on the way and therefore the games were running behind. Conner’s game didn’t start until 9:00pm!

And they played DOUBLE overtime! Yes, that’s TWO overtimes. #midnightbasketball

They lost a heartbreaker by 2 but played hard and we are SO incredibly proud of our #44!

That’s him shooting the ball! 😉
In the past 8 weeks, we have traveled to Arlington, Amarillo, San Angelo, Midland, Wichita Falls, Lubbock, Aledo, Frenship, and back to Aledo to start district this past week. Friends, we are so happy that this Friday we play AT HOME! If you are local, come cheer us on Friday night at 7:30pm!

Because of our late start and double overtime, we didn’t get home until 2:00am! #mommatired #daddytired #everybodyistired

Carson had a basketball game bright and early Saturday morning. This is Carson standing next to his friend, Revis. These two have known each other since they were babies. So fun to play with (or against) friends!

Poor Carson had strep last week and didn’t feel well for several days. He was exhausted after our late night (although he did sleep on the way home) and ended up playing 3 out of the 4 quarters of the game. Carson was a WARRIOR. Look at him chasing down that rebound!

So proud of this kid! He even took an elbow to the nose but was TOUGH!

And they got the WIN! So he was super excited!

At 3:00pm, we headed to Cutter’s game.

One of Cutter’s best friends, Thomas, is on his team this year and they couldn’t be more excited to play together! Their other sweet friend, Colton, played in the game before us and he stayed to cheer on his friends. These boys have been best little friends since Kindergarten!

Cutter plays point guard and has been working on his ball handling skills this year.

He absolutely LOVES basketball just like his older brothers and sister!

We spent the rest of Saturday cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. Gosh, we really wanted them to keep going in the playoffs! I grew up watching the Cowboys with my Dad and now that’s he’s passed away, it always reminds me of him. :)

Our Sunday consisted of church and more football! #tistheseason

Hope you guys had THE BEST weekend!
I’m gonna grab my cup of coffee (or coffee IV!) and tackle my Monday!
